SDU International Summer School 2026

Dear BA and MA Students,

This August, we invite you to take part in an inspiring and intellectually vibrant experience at the SDU International Summer School 2026 in Odense, Denmark, by enrolling in the course Classics Today: Decentering and Digitalization (5 ECTS), offered at both Bachelor’s and Master’s level and organized within the framework of the MSCA Doctoral Network From Antiquity to Community (AntCom: www.antcom.eu).

There are so many summer schools out there, why should I choose this course?
Well, no one will take you to explore the future of the past like we do. Graeco-Roman heritage continues to shape debates on culture and identity, fueled by the deep entanglements of “Classics” with colonial and hegemonic perspectives. This course explores how digital tools, citizen humanities, and inclusive methodologies can transform the Graeco-Roman past into a more accessible, socially responsible, and globally relevant heritage. Through a combination of theory, hands-on digital work, and collaborative projects, you will gain both critical insight and practical skills applicable across the humanities and beyond.

What makes this summer school special?

  • International classroom with students from around the world
  • Two-week intensive format in English: 3–14 August 2026
  • 5 ECTS credits
  • Cutting-edge themes: digital humanities and new approaches to “Classics”, inclusivity, and technological innovation
  • Engaging social program with students coming from all over the world in the city that gave birth to H.C. Andersen, immersed in the light of the long Scandinavian summer days. Check out all the fun activities here.

But in practice, what will I do?
In the AntCom Summer School you will benefit from lectures by internationally renowned scholars, including Henry Stead (St. Andrews), Barbara Graziosi (Princeton University), Mihaela Ciortan (Norwegian University of Science and Technology), Eric Cullhed (Uppsala University), Aimee Hinds Scott (Independent Researcher) and from access to innovative digital tools and facilities. You will be offered an engaging overview of cutting-edge digital tools for the study and preservation of ancient texts and cultural heritage, discovering new directions for academic and professional development. You will explore innovative platforms for the linguistic and semantic analysis of ancient Greek, gain a practical introduction to sentiment analysis of Graeco-Roman texts, and experience live demonstrations of AI-driven tools for heritage research. The program will also let you discover advanced imaging techniques, including hyperspectral and multispectral methods for the preservation and study of manuscripts. Finally, dedicated workshops on citizen humanities will show you how to integrate new technologies into participatory approaches so as to enhance both research and public engagement with the Graeco-Roman heritage. Combining theory, hands-on practice, and exploration, the AntCom Summer School will offer you a gateway into the future of classical studies.
