Aglae Pizzone is a Byzantinist with a training in classics. In her research she focuses on cultural history and history of the ideas. She is currently associate professor in Medieval Literature at the Danish Institute for Advanced Study, hosted by the University of Southern Denmark. After earning her Ph.D. at the University of Milan and before joining SDU, she carried research in France, the States, UK, and Switzerland. Besides being AntCom’s PI, she leads two projects dealing with Byzantine commentaries on Hermogenes: a two-year project, funded by the Gerda Henkel Foundation, “Necessity by Design” (2022-2024), dealing with the diagrams contained in Byzantine manuscripts of and on Hermogenes; a three-year project, funded by the Carlsberg Foundation, “A Rhetoric for the Empire: Education, Politics and Speech-Making in the Byzantine Millennium” (2023-2026), dealing with Byzantine commentaries on Hermogenes’ handbook.
